It’s Memorial Day and it goes without saying that today CrossFit Athlete’s Arena will be challenging all of its members with the Hero WOD “Murph”.
Navy SEAL Lieutenant Michael Murphy lost his life in 2005 while fighting for our freedom and country in Afghanistan in 2005. While leading a four man reconnaissance team in Kunar province as part of a counter-insurgent mission to capture or kill a key Taliban leader, the team found themselves seriously outnumbered in a firefight. Lt. Murphy is credited with risking his own life to save the lives of his teammates. His selfless action allowed one team member, Marcus Luttrell, to escape before being killed.
“Murph” is not just another WOD. It is a workout designed to honor and remember the men and women of the armed forces that lost their lives in defense of our freedom. Performing this workout is a way to ensure these brave and courageous heros, and Lt. Michael Murphy, are never forgotten.
