Bursting the Cardio Myth Bubble

Jane Doe: I went for a 4 mile run today!

Me: Why?

Jane Doe: I am trying to lose weight and tone.

Me: Are you resistance training?

Jane Doe: Twice a week, but I don’t want to get bulky. I need to run to burn extra calories.

Me: Oh, well you know doing resistance training will burn extra calories long after your finished with your workout. It will also increase muscle mass and strength that will increase your daily metabolism. Running will actually do the opposite, decreasing muscle mass.

Today I performed a 15 min. workout that burned 350 calories during the workout and one hour and fifteen minutes later burned an additional 330 calories as I recovered, started my day and wrote this blog. You can see the workout on our WOD page.
